Seminar on gender-specific prevention

The seminar "NGO as essential element of multi-actor partnerships for development of holistic prevention of drug and alcohol abuse among girls and women" about basic principles and features of the prevention of alcohol and drug addiction among women has been held by the Regional Public Charity Organization " Drug Abuse Prevention Centre"  in the conference hall of the Aglaya Courtyard Hotel (St. Petersburg, Russia).(Presentation 1presentation 2).

The seminar was held within the framework of the project "NGO as essential element of multi-actor partnerships for development of holistic prevention of drug and alcohol abuse among girls and women". The project is being implemented within the framework of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding programme for NGOs in the Baltic Sea Region. More than 25 representatives of NGOs and social services from seven regions of the North-Western Federal District have taken part in the seminar. The seminar was led by Leena Kharake, general manager, Committee of Women's Organizations on problems related to alcohol and drugs (WOCAD), Stockholm, Sweden and Britt Fredenman, head of BellAnet network (WOCAD), Malmö, Sweden. The experts highlighted the main approaches and features of gender-specific prevention of alcohol and drug dependence, multilateral partnership issues for the development of comprehensive prevention of alcohol and drug abuse among girls and women and the main activities of the Committee of Women's Organizations on alcohol and drug problems. In the practical part, several cases of working with dependent women have been analyzed. Britt Fredenman shared the experience of the Bellanet network and presented some elements of group work with girls to train leaders for the prevention of addictions.
