RPCO "DAPC" has became one of the winners of the Social Policy Committee of St. Petersburg competitive selection for the right to provide subsidies and began to implement the "Program for the Prevention of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome".

The Regional public charitable organization "Drug Abuse Prevention Centre" has became one of the winners of the Social Policy Committee of St. Petersburg competitive selection for the right to provide subsidies and began to implement the "Program for the Prevention of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome".
Using alcohol during pregnancy causes a range of health and social problems. In St. Petersburg, up to two thirds of pregnancies are in the zone of probable risk of alcohol exposure to the fetus. Despite the fact that the development of fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) in general can be completely prevented, the level of these disorders in children is intolerably high (several times higher than the number of children with Down syndrome and autism). Within the framework of the proposed project, it is planned to develop and implement a set of measures to increase the awareness of women and the entire population regarding the impact of alcohol on the unborn child, to involve a wide range of specialists in the prevention of the fetal alcohol spectrum of disorders and to change the behavior of pregnant women regarding alcohol, which, in in turn, will lead to a decrease in the number of children born with the consequences of intrauterine alcohol exposure.
