Seminar-training on innovations in primary prevention
The Seminar-training on “Innovations in primary prevention and in methods of gender responsive prevention, including prevention of FASD” has been held by the Regional Public Charity Organization " Drug Abuse Prevention Centre" and MTU “Evrika” in the conference hall of the Narva Hotel (Narva, Estonia).
The seminar was held within the framework of the project "NGO as essential element of multi-actor partnerships for development of holistic prevention of drug and alcohol abuse among girls and women". The project is being implemented within the framework of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding programme for NGOs in the Baltic Sea Region. More than 20 representatives of NGOs, medical and social services from regions of the North-Western Federal District and Estonia have taken part in the seminar-training. The seminar was led by Leena Kharake, general manager, Committee of Women's Organizations on problems related to alcohol and drugs (WOCAD), Stockholm, Sweden and Lauri Beekmann, the Secretary General of The Nordic Alcohol- and Drug Policy Network (NordAN), the chairman and executive director of the Estonian Temperance Union (ETU). The experts highlighted the main approaches and features of gender-specific prevention of alcohol and drug dependence.
Leena Harake discussed with participants following issues: promoting health and healthy life style; to work locally and think globally; recognizing challenges of 2020`s; target group adjusted approaches; trauma informed approaches. Presentation.
Lauri Beekmann gave overview of the latest research on FASD, informed the participants about prevention, prevalence and social/economic harms from prenatal alcohol exposure and discussed alcohol policy tools to reduce FASD and online tools and materials that can be used to raise awareness about alcohol and pregnancy.
